Fancy a night out before the clocks go back? There’s live music in Alexandria, a Tom Jones tribute in Dumbarton and a Halloween bingo night in Helensburgh. The pumpkins are getting their moment too.

Here’s this week’s round-up, with a few quieter ways to get out and meet people between the weekend plans.

Friday night: take your pick

Tom as Usual & Band · Dumbarton
Friday 23 October, 7.30pm · Denny Civic Theatre

A Tom Jones tribute with a live band sounds like a good excuse to gather the pals and give the sofa a night off. Expect a show built around the Welsh singer’s music—this is the tribute act, rather than Tom himself!

Check the ticket page for prices and remaining availability.

Two nights of music at The Pawn · Alexandria

If you’d rather keep it local and head to the pub, Alexandria’s community events diary lists:

  • Friday 23 October, 9pm: Wullie & Fiona.

  • Saturday 24 October, 9pm: Wreckless.

That’s two reasons to get the group chat moving. Admission details aren’t given in the listings, so check with The Pawn before heading along.

Saturday afternoon: a dance before dinner

SKA & Reggae Afternoon · Helensburgh
Saturday 24 October, 1–5pm · Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre

Fancy a dance without waiting until late at night? Deejay Beano brings ska, 2-Tone, rocksteady and reggae to the Civic Centre.

It’s an 18+ standing event, with seating available when your feet need a break. Check the booking page for the current ticket price.

Saturday night: get the Halloween outfit out early

Burgh Bonkers Bingo Spooktacular · Helensburgh
Saturday 24 October · Helensburgh Cricket & Rugby Club, Rhu Road Higher

Doors open at 7pm, with eyes down at 7.30pm. Stewart Maule hosts an evening of bingo, music and games, with fancy dress encouraged.

Over-18s only; non-members welcome. Tickets are listed at £10 plus a 25p service fee, with proceeds supporting rugby in the community.

If your Halloween costume normally gets one outing a year, here’s a chance to improve its attendance record.

Pumpkins, twinkly woods—and someone else clears up

Pumpkins by Night · Monty’s Farm Park, Cardross
Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Wednesday 28 October, 5–7pm

Monty’s at Ardardan has evening pumpkin carving, a wander through the illuminated woods and a silent disco. The organisers recommend it for older children—roughly over five—and adults.

The booking page lists £14.50 for children aged 5–17 and £16.50 for adults, including a pumpkin and carving. An adult entry option without a pumpkin is £12.

Bring warm layers and shoes that can cope with an October evening outdoors. The indoor play barn and usual play equipment won’t be open during these sessions.

And yes, you leave the pumpkin-carving mess there. That part deserves a mention.

A cuppa for a good cause

RNLI Coffee Morning · Helensburgh
Saturday 24 October, 10am–12.30pm · United Reformed Church, 35 West Princes Street

A quieter start to Saturday: pop along to support the RNLI. Christmas cards will be on sale too, if you’re one of those impressively organised people.

A bit of company in Tullichewan

The Tullichewan Tenants and Residents Association Community Hub is listed for Sunday 25 October, 1–4pm, at the Community Flat, 2/1 McGregor Walk.

At the same venue, Knit and Natter runs on Wednesday 28 October, 1–3pm. A possible midweek plan if you fancy putting the phone down and catching up with people.

One to pass on to your local group

WDCVS Funders Fair · Clydebank
Tuesday 27 October, 11am–2pm · Clydebank Town Hall

Run a community group, help with a club or volunteer for a local organisation? This free event brings funders together to discuss support for organisations in West Dunbartonshire.

The advertised line-up includes the National Lottery Community Fund, Bank of Scotland Foundation, SportScotland and Creative Scotland. WDCVS also says it can help with applications after the event.

Worth forwarding to whoever spends their evenings trying to keep your group funded.

Before you head to bed on Saturday…

The clocks go back one hour at 2am on Sunday 25 October. An extra hour in bed—unless the children or pets have other ideas.

What’s happening at your local?

Got a band, quiz, karaoke night, school fair or community event coming up? Reply with the venue, date, time, price and a public event link.

And if this has helped you make a plan, forward it to a pal. There’s always someone who hears about a good night out the morning after.

See you next Thursday,
Mary
