What are you doing this weekend? There’s comedy in a Helensburgh bar on Friday, The Full Monty in Dumbarton, and live bands with beer and bratwurst on Sunday. Here’s what caught my eye for 1–7 October.

Out this weekend
Thursday 1 October · Cumbernauld’s Big Variety Bash
Why wait for Friday? Lanternhouse turns five with a fundraiser packed with music, comedy, poetry and dance. Jay Jay Lafferty hosts, and local performers join the bill. 7.30pm, £20. See the line-up and book.
Thursday 1 to Saturday 3 October · The Full Monty · Dumbarton
Six friends, one improbable money-making plan. Dumbarton People’s Theatre stages The Full Monty at the Denny Civic Theatre, with the final performance on Saturday. Evening shows are listed for 7.30pm; check the box office for availability and any matinee. Book tickets.
Friday 2 October · Meet Me at Boots Corner · Cumbernauld
Glasgow, 1975. Linda, Una and Viv are looking for love at Boots Corner, with dodgy dates, sharp patter and a big 70s soundtrack. Lanternhouse, 7.30pm; tickets £20–£22 plus booking fees. Can’t make Friday? It’s in Helensburgh on Saturday. Book Cumbernauld.
Friday 2 October · RNLI bingo and fish supper · Helensburgh
Fish and chips, bingo, home baking and a raffle—all for Helensburgh RNLI. The bar opens at 6.45pm at Helensburgh Sailing Club; bingo starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 including food and bingo, available from Wilkies according to the organiser’s listing. Check the details.
Friday 2 October · Comedy at the Clyde · Helensburgh
Fancy a laugh with your Friday pint? Rob Kane comperes at The Clyde Bar, with Mark Black, Mathew Gallagher and Lucha DS. 7.30pm, 62–64 West Clyde Street. See the listing and ticket link.
Saturday 3 October · Meet Me at Boots Corner · Helensburgh
The Boots Corner crowd moves to Victoria Halls on Sinclair Street at 7.30pm. Same 70s songs and Glasgow humour, closer to home if you’re on the west side. Book Helensburgh.
Sunday 4 October · Rocktoberfest · Dumbarton
Live local bands, German beer and bratwurst at the Denny Civic Theatre. Rocktoberfest kicks off at 1pm and raises money for Loch Lomond TV. Tickets cost £16.26, including the booking fee. See Rocktoberfest.
Sunday 4 October · Bute Wind Quintet · Helensburgh
Prefer a concert seat? The Bute Wind Quintet plays at the Helensburgh & Lomond Civic Centre at 7.30pm. Programme and tickets.
Monday 5 October · Traditional music session · Helensburgh
Bring an instrument, sing along or just listen. Eilidh Steel hosts the traditional music session at the Beachcomber Café by Kidston Park, 7–9pm. Under-18s are welcome too. Session details.
Something for the daytime
Saturday, 10am–3pm: The Young Entrepreneurs Craft Fair brings makers aged 8–18 to The Burgh Yard in Helensburgh. Go and see what they’ve made.
Sunday: The Helensburgh Bake Off takes cakes at The Terrace Café from 10.30am (£5 to enter); judging begins at noon, with a cake sale after the 12.30pm awards. Or head to Cardross for Geilston Garden’s autumn celebration, 11am–4pm. NTS admission applies.
Before Thursday ends
West Dunbartonshire’s community council consultation closes at 11.59pm on Thursday 1 October. It covers local boundaries and how councils work. You can respond online or by email, or visit the drop-in at Dumbarton Concord Centre from 6–7.30pm. Read the proposals and have your say.
Know who’s playing next weekend? Send me the band, venue, date, time, price and a public link. I’m especially keen to hear from pubs and small venues in Clydebank, Dumbarton, the Vale, Helensburgh and Cumbernauld.
See you next Thursday,
Mary
Plans can change. Check the organiser’s link before setting off.
